The exercises performed naturally deepen the breathing, calming the mind and gently stimulating the whole system.
It is this precision during the form which accounts for many of the health benefits. Like Acupuncture, Tai Chi’s aim is to balance the life force or Chi and cultivate good health and a calm mind. It is used extensively in the Far East not only to maintain good health but also to support recovery from ill health in many hospitals.
In the West medical research studies have proven the many health benefits of regular practise of Tai Chi. The solo form is only one part of Tai Chi, the others being, Qigong, Pushing Hands, Self-Defence and Tai Chi weapons, used by advanced practitioners to develop their energy further.
Matt Hudd has been only been studying Tai Chi for nearly 10 years and fully admits that he is still a beginner. Even though Matt has been studying the martial arts nearly all his life, he feels that training in Tai Chi has enhanced not only his life but his own martial ability. He quotes "I have trained pretty hardcore for most of my life, with wear and tear on my joints and my flexibility is not what it used to be, I thought my martial arts skills were on the way down. Tai Chi has really given things a new lease of life"
Matt teaches his Tai Chi classes in a very enjoyable and informative way, bringing his own unique way of teaching into it. He travels to Kent at least once a month to train under his instructor, Steve Rowe so he can bring back true Tai Chi to Hereford.
In 2011 Matt travelled to Foshan in South China and studied a Yang style Tai Chi form. In that same year he opened up a class to teach people with learning disabilities.
Matt is very interested in the martial applications of Tai Chi but insists that you can still enjoy his classes if you are just interested in the health benefits. His classes include Neigong and Qigong exercises, a short form, pushing hand drills and meditation.
