Yeah, my favourite day of the week. As much as I love teaching, its nice to have a more relaxing day without the classes. We do have a morning adult Kung Fu class but most of the students that attend are pretty senior grade and want to work on their own syllabuses so I don’t have to do too much, and its a nice class to teach, especially as when I’m still in silence mode.
I’ve just dropped the car off to get it serviced which was another experience in itself. I took Bryony with me so she could do the talking but people just can’t work out why I would want to do this sort of challenge! There is also a bit of weirdness from people in the way that they don’t know how to act or talk to to me, which to be honest, does happen all the time with people that are not used to being around people with needs. By the way, I am not saying in the least that I have any idea what it is like to live with learning disabilities, all I can say is that we don’t often think about it and me doing something like this, just shines a light on some of the difficulties they may face. I know that the hardest challenge I have faced is not being understood and almost throwing a gasket when its bloody obvious to me!
I am writing this blog on and off during the day so I don’t have to remember at the end of the day all the experiences I’ve had. So now I have just finished teaching the 11 am Kung Fu class and I take back what I said about it being an easy one to teach! it was a different one to say the least! I don’t know what makes the day time class so enjoyable to teach but all the students love it for some reason and say its their favorite class of the week. It might be as its only a small one as being during the day, not many can make it. But today, I think they were playing me up a bit! It was good fun thou.
A big thing in martial arts is to learn to breathe into the diaphragm, which is the way we were born to do but over the years with stress, anxiety etc, we start to breathe shallow, I often say that your lungs are not in your shoulders! So I thought I would do a simple breathing exercise that involved their phones. The getting them to lie down bit was easy but trying to get them to go and get their phones!!
Its 4.20 pm now and I’m clocking off work, that why I like Fridays! The question is, should I attempt to have a glass or 2 of wine or will that cause me to slip up! I can’t afford another conversation with putting a £1 a word into the pot every time!
